The PlayStation 5 tag on Twitter is currently trending, and people have a lot to say. Sony recently confirmed the PS5 game reveal event date to be Thursday, June 11. That's tomorrow, and people are excited.
The PS5 reveal event will be broadcast at 1 PM PT. The pre-taped event is reportedly going to be over an hour long and dedicate at least an hour of that to revealing PS5 games. It looks like there'll be a huge turnout of people tuning into the broadcast, if the amount of tweets is anything to go by. Twitter user @Urorimsin joked about the huge response with a video of several anime characters running and the comment that this represented the excited potential PS5 players running toward the event.

Several of the comments are in response to the expected high price of the upcoming console. Everyone has their own jokes to make about how they'll afford the PS5, such as @Ibby_b who joked that he would 'promise to wash the dishes everyday for the next ten years' in exchange for the new gaming system. A leaked Amazon UK listing showed a PS5 placeholder price of £599.99. That's a big jump from the PS4's launch price of £350 in the UK.

— Bryant (@HeyyBryant) June 10, 2020The account @Dexerto asked people what their 'dream game announcement' would be. Popular wishes were for Infamous, Call of Duty, and God of War. There is a rumor going around that a new God of War installment might be announced at the reveal event, thanks to a Tweet from a developer at Santa Monica Studio. Regardless, there are sure to be tons of exciting new games announced.
Despite the global pandemic, Sony stated that it's confident the PS5 distribution and price won't be affected. Multiple Twitter users complained about not being able to afford the console, but the trend was toward maintaining excitement and hope, not blaming Sony. A lot of people will find a way to pay or hold off on the PS5, because it's so anticipated. Even if people don't buy, a lot of them will likely tune into the event.
The PS5 reveal event wasn't always set for June 11. At the beginning of June, Sony postponed the original event date in light of the Black Lives Matter protests. Sony didn't initially reveal a new event date when it announced the postponement. But now that the new date has been announced, it turns out that the delay was only for a week. That may seem like a long time to potential buyers hungering for news, but for now, the event is going forward and the fans are ready.

With the Xbox Series X showing off a number of incredible videos over the last few days, all eyes turned to what the PlayStation 5 would show in the wake of its impressive competition. Expectations only grew when Sony announced that it would indeed be streaming a brand new 'deep-dive' into the PlayStation 5 for today, March 18, with many assuming the company would finally display its next mainline console. However, it appears the highly-anticipated stream didn't go down as many expected.
As many social media users will no doubt have noticed over the last hour, PlayStation 5 has launched its way up the trending tab, with thousands of fans tweeting about the deep-dive that recently took place on YouTube. Unfortunately, very few of the comments are positive, with many labeling the stream as a dull waste of time that was more concerned with highlighting specs than showcasing what they will mean for the console.

A number of users - who had woken up early to catch the stream - posted gifs signifying the dull presentation was putting them to sleep, while far more simply tweeted or commented 'Z's' in response to the broadcast. Outside of those simply claiming the stream was boring to watch, many criticized the major console provider for spending such a lengthy amount of time highlighting the SSD of the console, with numerous fans claiming it was a waste of time when there were so many more topics surrounding the console that needed to be discussed.

— KOFI (@PressStartKofi) March 18, 2020Alongside that, a number of fans made the suggestion that the PlayStation 5 was less powerful than the Xbox Series X, claiming that the stream had made them want to purchase an Xbox Series X instead of Sony's next mainline console. This is only got worse when Sony seemingly confirmed that only PlayStation 4 games would be backward compatible on the PlayStation 5, with a significant portion of fans immediately expressing their outrage at the fact that PlayStation 1, 2, and 3 games would be completely left out of the shuffle. Evidently this was a very important feature for an overwhelming number of fans, with many using Twitter to vocalize their outrage that Sony wouldn't include such a highly-demanded feature.
Overall, it appears fans are growing weary with PlayStation's tight-lipped approach to revealing its next major console. While there's undeniably a lot of merit in the idea of revealing the console's extensive specifications and how they will make the PlayStation 5 a significantly more powerful piece of hardware in the long run, it's clear right now, fans are more eager to see the console in action. For those disappointed with the stream, it's worth remembering that it was used to replace GDC, so PlayStation will likely deliver a more fan-focused reveal later this year.
The PS5 remains planned for release in holiday 2020.
